There is an extensive library of books and an archive of material on the town's past. If you want to find some aspect of the history of the town or the immediate area this is probably the best place to start looking.
We can also refer people to other sources such as Dorset County Museum of which the Society is a member.
To use the Library please email for an appointment. The library is available free for members of the Shaftesbury & District Historical Society for all others we do ask for a discretionary donation towards library funds.
The Gold Hill Museum is closed for the whole of 2010 to allow for work on renovating our Grade II listed buildings, building work on a new learning centre, improving the exhibitions and the display of artifacts.
